We got fed 3 times this week (a record for us) and each time, we got fed homemade tamales by different people. Now we have a haul of tamales in our fridge and Sister Lloyd hates tamales so I have a weeks worth is tamales to eat. I am probably 40% tamale at this point.
There are so many freaking deer everywhere in Brady. I'm surprised we haven't hit one yet. Last Monday we were finding and there was a herd of deer in a yard, and so we went over there and decided to knock that house. Now we follow the deer to find the people who are prepared to hear the gospel haha.
On Wednesday we had the prompting to go see the 10 year old (Brianne) who's mom is less active. When we went over there, she was in a neighbors yard playing with some other kids on a swing thing. So we played with them awhile, told them about our church and gave them pictures of Jesus. When we were pushing them on the swing, they wanted to push me, so I got on and let them spin me around until I got sick haha. The little boy, Hayden, kept saying "this is the most fun I've ever had with church people!" haha. We got to meet one of their moms and we will be going back soon to teach them. Another little girl, Rayla, gave us directions to her house so we could come over, and so we are going over tonight! I'm super stoked! It was a lot of fun and we got to build relationships with the kids and get some new people to teach out of it!
When we went to the nursing home Friday, a guy who tried bashing with us was there again. He goes and visits his wife. He's the guy who is the most passive aggressive and condescending person in the world haha. He came up to me and asked if I read the Bible. I told him we read it everyday. He said, "no I'm talking about the Bible. Not your book that was written by man." I told him that I read both the Bible and the Book of Mormon everyday. He said if I truly read the Bible I would know that I'm teaching blasphemy. He kept saying negative things about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith and it was so hard for me to keep smiling and not engage with him lol. He then handed me a slip of paper with Galations 1:6-12 written on it. It was his way of telling us that we are pervert in the gospel of Christ, are teaching after the manner of men, and are cursed for it. Haha. Patience is a virtue. And a hard one for me haha.
Friday at our tamale dinner appointment, we got to go to Sister Botello's house. She is less active and she also invited her less active daughter and her family, and her nonmember son and his daughter! It was so fun haha. Her son is a riot. He told us many different ways you can kill/get rid of someone. My favorite was you give them a knife to the Armpit and theyll bleed out in 2 minutes. Then you wrap them in chicken coop wire and throw them in a creek. The body will then bloat and be sliced to pieces through the wire and the fish will eat them (:
We also got to meet a less active with the coolest story. His name is Al. He's from New York and used to be in the mob with all his family. To make a long story short, he changed his life, got away from the mob, met missionaries, got baptized, moved to Utah, was in the bishopric, etc. But then hard times hit and him and his wife separated. It's been a few years and he's been living in Brady. He recently had the strong feeling he needed to get back to church and mend things with his wife and kids, and we showed up! He decided to go to Utah to see his wife and so they could figure everything out. He's so awesome and I'm so excited and proud of him (':
We had the feeling to go see David yesterday. Things have been going too well. Lol. We went over and he was in another terrible mood and coming up with all this crap about the church and the members and we were not gonna have it. The members try so hard with him and are the kindest people on earth. He just keeps coming up with all these excuses to not come to church. He even went so far as to say that the members were racist and he was excluded because he is Mexican. So I was very bold (and loving) with him. He needed it. But he kept complaining and he said "I've said everything I needed to say." then we all sat in silence for over a half an hour, but it felt like hours haha. Everytime I went to say something, I felt like I shouldn't. Eventually Sister Lloyd asked him if he knew the song "I am a child of God." he said he didn't, and so she said we would sing it for him. She told him we were going to give him time to think and whatnot and not be over for awhile. We sang him I am a child of God and hopefully made him cry. Then we left. David does not realize what he has and how much we and members do for him. He keeps pushing us away, so we are going to stay away for awhile and hopefully he will realize what he had. We think it'll be really good for him. Pray that he can have a humbling experience.
We also got to see Don this week! He has been taking the lessons for 20+ years. We had an amazing Spirit-filled lesson Saturday where we were inspired to talk about eternal marriage and temples, which eventually led to baptism. He is praying about being baptized this week. Pray that he will receive a clear answer. We need a miracle for Don.
Sorry for my freaking long emails. I explain things too much and use too many details haha.
Remember that you are all children of God. We are not physical beings who occasionally have spiritual experiences. We are spiritual beings sent to Earth to have a few physical experiences. You are children of Deity! He loves you infinitely and perfectly and sees you with all your potential. Seek not only to see yourself this way, but to see others as they can become.
With all my love from the
️ of Texas,
Sister MacLay
