| Signs like these are on literally every door in Texas. I forgot that that wasn't a normal thing haha. Everybody has something about Jesus or Texas or both. |
Hey friends! First off- I've been doing family history and made a group in relative finder to see how closely related I am. So click the link plz! (unless you're family...that's pointless lol.
This week has been awesome! I got super sick, and then got sister Lloyd sick but #thegrindneverstops. Everyone here in Brady is sick haha. That's how small this town is. One person gets sick and in a few days the all of Brady has caught it.
OKAY SUPER COOL- we posted a thing on Facebook marketplace for a free Bible. Well, this guy named Gilbert responded and said he would love one! So we went over and met him and his amazing family. They are allllll about Jesus. They were so so kind and his wife, Donna, kept telling us how proud she was of us. They invited us to their church's bingo night which was great. Then they also invited us to their youth worship service that Donna is in charge of. It was the type of deal where we stand and sang and they all were sayin hallelujah and praise Jesus while raising their hands. We sang songs and Gilbert and his daughter, Kendra, instructed us. They read from Genesis and had some great insights! But it was so clear how they didn't have all of the truth. It was awesome nonetheless, and at the end, Gilbert jokingly said to me, "so y'all got next weeks instruction?" and I said "heck yeah." And he was like "wait, really?" and I told him we would absolutely love to. I'm so so stoked! Literally everyone here in Brady has talked to the missionaries and so we are having to get creative. We are going to start attending more church services when they don't interfere with ours and give service etc. But yeah, I'm super excited about their family. We are building a really good relationship with them and the members of their church too.
We were going to this cute little 98 year old lady's house (she lives on her own and is quick as a whip!) when we saw this dude flailing around by his car. So naturally, we introduced ourselves to him. We found out his name is Shan. Immediately he told us he was a Vietnam veteran. When I thanked him for his service he got really mad haha. He kept wagging his finger at us and saying "let me tell you somethin." and then he would go on to say a bunch of nonsense haha.
Like he randomly said, "you know Jonah in the Bible?"
Us: "yes."
"i rest my case."
When there was no case being made haha. But he was probably definitely a little intoxicated. He had an 8 pack of beer he had just bought and sister Lloyd asked him why he had that. He said it was for his back pain. Here's how the rest of the conversation went:
Me: "does that solution last?"
Shan: "well no."
Me: "you know what will help you and actually last?"
Shan: "what."
Me: "Jesus :)"
Then I promised him that if he didn't drink his beer and instead prayed, then he would have no back pain tonight.
He told me I was crazy and asked if I was serious. Haha. We then convinced him to give us his beer. We told him that we would be back the next day and if he had no back pain, we got to keep the beer; and if he did have pain, we would give him his beer back. We shook on it and we grabbed the beer but then he said he didn't want to. But we told him we already shook on it (: he told us we were stubborn and pathetic but we kept the beer! Haha
So we went back the next day and he said he couldn't meet because he was super sick (like everyone else in Brady) but that we could come back. But no mention of back pain and he didn't ask for his beer back!
We got some TREASURES from a garage sale. A giant owl lamp and a clay cat. Also I gave them a Plan of Salvation pamphlet haha.
Last week I mentioned how we went to go see a recent convert named David, but he told us his name was Richard. Well he called us Tuesday and said "This is the real David. I have to explain to you something." So we went over again and he told us he was actually David (no duh) and apologized. So yeah. We are working with him to get him the priesthood and to the temple. It will be interesting to say the least.
I am so so grateful to be out here serving a mission. I am learning to love it and enjoy it more and more everyday! Thank y'all for your love and support! I couldn't do it without y'all and my savior
️
