Transfer #2 is a go. My new companion and 2nd trainer is Sister Eggett! She is from Cedar City, Utah. She has been out only one transfer longer than me! She was previously serving in the Midland Texas YSA ward. Soooo I'm leading out the Childress area. So I get to decide everything we do basically. Haha. The salvation of the souls in these towns is in my hands but it's fine I'm fine.
But yeah my new companion is awesome! She's super sweet and we have gotten along well! We have both been stressed though and so we asked our branch president to give us blessings. Man, the power of the priesthood is for real! He gave me mine and told me things that I have been struggling with. Sister Eggett said it's okay if I share her experience! So then he gave sister Eggett hers and mentioned how there is someone on the other side of the veil who is always with her and protecting her and supporting her. He talked about how she has guardians. Little did president Tipa know, Sister Eggett's little brother had just passed away a few months ago. She also lost her Dad a couple of years ago to cancer. The spirit was so so strong and we could feel them both in the room!
Okaaayyy so let's see. This week was kinda crazy, as transfer weeks usually are. We drove the 2 hours to Amarillo and I said goodbye to Sister Allart. I then spent the day with another set of sisters until my companion got to town. She ended up getting there at like 6 and so then we left right away in order to get back by our curfew.
The next day we drove the 2 hours to district meeting and visited our outlying towns. Nobody has really been answering their doors lately though...haha. But yeah so we eventually drove back to Childress and we had a branch BBQ for a girl in the branch who graduated. It was great! I love this branch and the people in it so dang much.
The next day was our bike day but Sister Eggett's bike hasn't gotten here yet so it was walk day for us! Of course, it decided to pour that day. We actually loved it though! It was nice and cool and we were just walking around enjoying ourselves as the streets were turning into rivers. I was the wettest I had ever ever been haha. We had to cross the highway in the middle of town to get back home for dinner. The traffic was crazy though and the road was flooded. But we finally got a chance and sprinted/swam across. Haha. We made it home and had a voicemail from a branch member. I guess she had seen us stranding by the highway because she said "girls, we are in a severe weather warning and a tornado watch. Get shelter." hahahaha we had no clue. But we are still alive.
Hector is still trying to quit smoking! We saw him last night and he said he hadn't smoked all day! We are so proud of him. We told him we would throw him a party when he had completely quit (hopefully by July) and eat spaghetti and meatballs and his favorite dessert, capirotada. If someone knows what that is, send me a recipe hahahahah.
We had yet another miracle yesterday! We met this lady named Christina. We were trying to see Ni Ni, but of course she didn't answer. We were getting in the car and then I just felt like we should go talk to this lady sitting at a picnic table. But we had literally just talked to her the day before and she wasn't interested. So we got out of the car and went to talk to her. She of course, wasn't interested, but after talking to her for awhile about her grandkids, another lady came walking up to us. I went over and talked to her while my comp. was still talking about to the other woman. I asked this lady what her name was and how she was doing. She said her name was Christina and that everything in her life was falling apart. But then she started talking about how she had such great faith in the Lord and she knew it was all going to work out in the end. I asked if I could show her the video Because of Him and she loved it. She was sobbing the whole time. I asked her what was going on in her life and she said that she has custody of her granddaughter and they were getting evicted the next morning. She talked to us, and we just listened and I just gave her a big ol hug and let her cry on me. She has no idea where she is going to live, but she is super interested in hearing the gospel and so we got her phone number and gave her ours. We are so excited to start teaching her and her granddaughter!
We also got to see Jessica yesterday! She said these past few weeks we haven't been seeing her have been chaotic. She doesn't realize the correlation between that and the gospel, so we're working on that. And also still trying to get her and Shawn married. Also, her mother in law is living with them because she went home one day and there was a RATTLESNAKE COILED UP ON HER STOVE!! yeah no thanks. The joys of living in Texas. We have all kinds of critters and friends living with us in our house. No rattlesnakes yet though. Pray for us lol. We got to volunteer at the 69th annual Panhandle Greenbowl game Saturday night! It's all the towns in the Panhandle of Texas who come to play and watch football. We got to help in the concession stand and it was a great way to meet people!
This week, I was reading about Adam and Eve in the Bible. Something cool I learned was about when they covered themselves with the fig leaves. When they had sinned and God was coming, they of course made themselves aprons out of fig leaves. But guys, how practical are fig leaves really? They're going to get crunchy real quick and just not hold up in general. They're not really going to provide any warmth or protection. Before Adam and Eve are cast out of the garden, it says, "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them." The Lord made something that was going to last. It took a lot more effort and work than fig leaves though. I mean, an animal was sacrificed and then it had to be skinned. But that's just like repentance. Satan want us to use" fig leaves." he offers quick fixes to our problems. He just wants us to take the easy way, but that will only cost us in the end. Because, I mean, winter is going to come and they're going to be not too well off. Coats of skins take a lot more effort, but they last. This is what Jesus Christ offers. It's not always the easy way, but it's what is going to bring us the most happiness. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that he loves us. God has a perfect plan for us. We can live with him again. We just have to put in the work. So, do you want fig leaves or a coat of skins?
Love you all
