OKAY so i have been informed that nobody received my email from last week. whoops.
here is last weeks email:
Another incredible week here in Childress!
Jaide and Savannah were baptized yesterday!! It went so so well. We had a lot of non-members there and so while they were changing back into their regular clothes, sister Allart and I taught the Restoration! It went amazingly! We had two of our investigators come too! Hector and Jessica. Sister Allart and I had to go to the church 2 hours early at 7am to fill the font. We started smelling smoke, so we walked around the building to find out what it was. And Hector was there! Haha just sitting outside smoking. Way way early.
At the beginning of May, we had to send in our Baptismal goal. We were going to just go for 2 because we had 2 people on date. Usually we give about 4-6 weeks from the time we ask them to get baptized until their date; Just so they can be as prepared as possible and we can teach them everything they need to know. So it made sense we would go for two right? Welp sister Allart and I prayed about it and she felt like we should shoot for two. But I had a prompting that we should strive for 3. We prayed again and decided to go for 3, even though we had nooo clue who that third baptism would be. But.... JESSICA IS ON DATE FOR BAPTISM!!! okay seriously, the happiest I've ever been:
We have not really known how to help Jessica lately. We felt like we were just kind of at a stand still with her. Life is crazy for her right now. She's a 23 year old mama of two. They are the ones we helped move last weekend into their new house from their apartment. We didn't know what to teach her. But we kept visiting her and sharing things we thought could help her and reading from the Book of Mormon a ton with her. We brought our recent convert, Kacey, with us on Friday. Kacey answered some of Jessica's questions and concerns she had about the gospel and how it would affect her family. Then we read in the BOM. AND THEN I asked Jessica what her thoughts were concerning baptism. She was already on date before, but her life kind of came crashing down and so the date passed. BUT SHE SAID THAT SHE FELT LIKE IT WAS PAST TIME. She said she really is wanting to be baptized! She said she wanted to do it "soon" but we expained how she had to get married to her boyfriend first. We asked her to pray about a date. And when we followed up she said she wanted to get married this weekend and baptized the weekend after! SO WE PLANNING A WEDDING FOLKS. this Friday! You're all invited! (; after that lesson though, I was on top of the world. Seriously the happiest I have ever been. I love Jessica so dang much and am so proud of her! Sister Allart and I were yelling and celebrating when we got in our car haha.
So yeah thanks to those of you who have been praying for her! Please continue to do so!
We had zone conference this week! And we got our smartphones! We learned all about how we can use them to their best ability in helping us accomplish our missionary purpose. We drove down to Amarillo on Wednesday. It would usually only take about 3 hours but we were stopping in all of our outlying towns along the way and seeing investigators and whatnot so it took us about 9 hours. What do we do in these long car rides you may ask? Nothing. Literally nothing. We just sit there in silence and I try not to fall asleep because the passenger isn't allowed to. We did the same thing again on the way back but got Chick-fil-A and Bahama Bucks on our way out of town! Blessings. But anyways, on the way back, we decided to stop by a referrals house one more time. His name was Ramiro and he requested a Bible through Mormon.org. We had stopped by several times but never got any answers. So last second we decided to stop in Memphis and try him one more time. And he was there! He let us in, and his daughter and son-in-law were there too! We taught all of them the restoration and they seem super solid! Right now they drive 3 hours to go to this huge non-denominational church in Amarillo. But they loved our lesson and want to learn more! Ramiro said lately he has just been "so hungry to learn more about God and his word. " so yeah they seem super solid! Miracles!
Okay guys. So everyone here in Childress attends church. Seriously, there are almost more churches than people haha. Most of them are Baptist or go to The Church of Christ (who do not like us Mormons lol). When we are knocking doors or just talking to people in general, we can just ask "what church do you attend?" they give us their answer (methodist, Baptist, pentecostal, what have you) and then we follow up by asking, "there are so many churches here in Childress! How did you decide that that was the church you were going to attend?" and their answer is almost ALWAYS is "that's just how I was raised." or something along those lines.
If you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ if Latter-day Saints, I really hope this wouldn't be your answer. I would hope that you would be able to bear testimony of how it is Jesus Christ's restored church here on the earth today. I hope you would share how you came to this knowledge, through studying the book of Mormon, praying etc. If you aren't able to say you can do this right now, work to gain your own testimony. The promise never fails; ask with a sincere heart and real intent and God will reveal the truth of it to you through the Holy Ghost.
I love you all! Have a great week and don't forget to look for missionary opportunities!
Sister MacLay
